Grow up

I'm a little irked. So one of my pet peeves happened today in class. We were going over some answers of an assignment, and the prof was calling on random people to answer. He called on this one guy in the class, and he didn't know the answer. No big deal. But this one lady in the class says, "What? Come on, this is so easy. So easy." She continues on about how easy it was. I can't stand this. When my students do this, I always have to tell them that what is easy for one person may not necessarily be easy for another person. I discourage those kind of comments. It can make the poor person feel stupid. Then it was my turn in class, and I happened to not know part of the answer. Of course, the same woman has to make a big deal about how easy it is, "Oh come on now, Julee. Just think. Try thinking." Wow. I'm sorry I'm not as intelligent as you are. You're 44. Grow up. And then came one word that I happened to think was easy, but this lady didn't know the answer. I could have said, "Oh wow, that one was sooooo easy....blah blah." But I refrained from such a childish act.

I think I'm ready to be done....one more day of lectures.....

Last week

I can’t believe the last week of classes has come already. I knew it would all fly by though. I’m excited to be done with the class part and then have fun for the next week or so with Jordan and friends. Here’s an update.

Friday was a tough day. My body knew that it was Friday, and I was having a hard time concentrating in class. After my last class of the day had finished I realized that I hadn’t heard a single word that the professor said after our break. Like, I really couldn’t tell you what we talked about. I had been daydreaming the whole time. But I at least pretended that I was paying attention by looking at her and nodding my head. Anyway, that night we went to this place where a bunch of the students were going for karaoke. Only two songs were sung because it was a playstation karaoke thing, and the bartender was the only one who knew how to run it, but he was really busy. That stunk, but we had fun just talking and playing darts. Anyway, a neighbor that lives above the bar ended up calling the police because it was too “noisy”. Apparently he does that all the time. The cops came and didn’t do anything. They just stood and talked to some people and smoked. But it’s like, if you don’t want it to be noisy where you live, don’t choose to live above a bar, duh. It’s not like it was really noisy anyway. It was just the normal noise that happens when there are 35 people talking at once. There wasn’t even any music. Esther and I left earlier than the rest because they had the doors closed, and most of the people in there were smoking. It hurt our eyes and lungs. You should have seen the place. You would have thought it was on fire. My hair actually still smells like stale smoke after three showers. Oh, and we took a taxi there and back and it cost 5 Euros (like $7-ish). We only went 1.5 kilometers, which is just under a mile. What a rip-off.

Saturday I went with a small group of girls to a Gitano market nearby. Wow, it was crazy. It kind of reminded me of the Mexican market in downtown LA, but with an even narrower pathway. The vendors were all yelling about their amazing prices and clapping their hands. “Brand name, only 4 euros, high quality!” Wow, isn’t that unbelievable for a REAL Coach purse?! Why go to a Coach store when you can get it for 99% less at a Gitano market? Besides the fake stuff they sell, there are some vendors that actually sell some real brand-name things. And you can tell who those people are because they only have like 10 items at their stand. Everybody here thinks/knows that they steal things from boutiques and re-sell them. How sad. The Gitano culture is pretty interesting. I was watching a tv show about them the other week. They get married extremely young (like between 13 and 16) and the weddings are crazy. Many don’t work but they have lots of money (can we say drugs?). You should research them in your spare time.

After the market I went to the “beach” here with some friends. The beach is by the icky river. It was hotttttt. I was soaking wet without going in the water. I came home early. Then I was bored. I didn’t feel like studying, so I went to the park by the school to use the internet. Of course, it didn’t work. And it still doesn’t work. I don’t know what happened.
Sunday, Esther went to Santander up north, and I was all alone. I went for a long walk and then I stopped at this hamburger place because I just really wanted a hamburger. I had one and some decaf. coffee. The dude asked me if I wanted milk with my coffee and I said yes. So he filled my cup up completely with warm milk and gave me an instant coffee pack. Wow, I thought he was asking if I wanted a little milk with my coffee, not a little coffee with my milk. It was actually really good though.

Ok, my little “rant” for the day…not an angry one though. Don’t you hate it when you know that you’re right about something for a fact, but the person you’re talking to thinks that they are right? It’s really awkward and it’s usually about little things that I don’t want to argue about. Many times it’s about grammar points. It’s happened a few times to me since I’ve been here. Like, I really feel like I know that I’m right…I even go online to verify to myself that I’m right, but I would never go back to that person and say, “Well, I just looked online, and it turns out that I was right after all.” But let me just make it clear that I don’t think that I’m always right…but I usually am :).

Last thing. A little random poll: When you hear the words “France” or “French” what are the first things that come to your mind? (like culture, food, historical things).

B+

Soooooo, I didn’t get the A+ that I would have given myself, but I did get a good grade on the test: an 87%. I’m happy with that because apparently this professor’s tests are the most difficult. I think only 2 people got an A. I still think I’m awesome though.
I don’t know if any of you have experienced this in class, but does anybody else get annoyed when another student answers all of the questions directed toward the professor? I do. There’s this one lady in that class who ALWAYS tries to answer another student’s question that is asked to the professor. Most of the time she’s answering the question while the professor is answering as well, so you can’t even hear the answer since they’re talking at the same time. She always has commentary for everything. She really is a genius, but maybe she should wait until she has her master’s degree to play “professor.” This is unfortunate also because I really like the lady. She’s really nice. I hate it when nice people get on my nerves.

I have been faithfully going to the gym each morning. Yes, I miss a day here and there, but I’m pretty surprised that I’ve been this dedicated. Where’s my prize? There are only two elliptical machines there, and everybody wants to use them. I swear there is going to be a fight one day. If you’re on the machine you get at least 2 people asking you if there’s anybody waiting after you. Then they call their spot. This one old lady that I see there every day is really impatient with it. She had called her spot after me, and at one point she yelled all the way across the gym to ask how much longer I would be on the machine. Geeze, I only had 3 minutes left. I can only go on there for 20 minutes, or I think I would get beat up. It’s kind of an unspoken rule. Anyway, I like the gym. Everybody knows each other (except for me). There’s no air conditioning of course, so when I leave it looks like I’ve been standing in the rain for an hour, but I don’t really care. Oh, and the greatest is when I wear my maroon shorts and do the bicycle because when I get off, I have two enormous dark circles on each butt cheek. Sorry…graphic. I save that for last because that’s when I leave the gym.

The end for today.

A++++++++++

Not to be too confident, but I think I may have gotten an A on my linguistics exam yesterday. I mean, I would give myself an A+. I think I pretty much killed the exam. It was crying after I took it. I studied so hard and it took my the whole 2 hours. It was not easy, but I think I studied the right things. Now watch, my next entry will be titled "F...I failed the exam." Let's hope not.

Dinner

I would just like to announce what was prepared for dinner last night at 10:30. We had chocolate cake, and the best homemade hot chocolate ever. Yes, that was dinner, not dessert.

Salamander

We took a trip to Salamanca on Saturday. For once we didn’t have a guide, and we had the whole day free to wander about the city! It’s really pretty there. The buildings are cool. Pictures will be on Facebook (if not already there).

It is said that when you go to Salamanca you must see “the frog”. This frog is on top of a skull on one of the university buildings (it’s part of the wall sculpture). By seeing this frog, you are supposed to pass an exam that you are about to take and graduate successfully or something like that. Let’s hope it will work for my exam on Tuesday. If you’ve already graduated, then you are supposed to get married soon after seeing the frog. I don’t know if there’s anything else after that.

I never thought I would say this, but I miss Los Angeles. Yes, I said before that I’m Miss America…oops, I mean I miss America in general, but now it’s more specific to LA. I always say how much I miss Michigan, and that hasn’t changed (I’m sad I won’t be home for the Cheeseburger fest), but maybe LA is starting to feel more like home for me? I don’t know. I’ve just kind of been on a downward spiral. My Spanish-speaking skills have gone backwards. I feel like I’m worse than ever. English keeps popping out of my mouth randomly, and it just shouldn’t be like that. I should be thinking in Spanish at this point and feel comfortable speaking it. Maybe my frustration is getting in the way of me moving forward.

My host mom is really funny. I learn a lot from her for sure. I’m glad that she likes to talk because that does help a lot. She was telling my roommate and me how we need to go out and experience the nightlife here. We’re so young and blah blah. I told her that I already went out last Saturday, but she said that’s not considered “going out” when you come back at 1:00 am. You need to stay up all night long. You go out around 1:00 and come back around 7:00 am. And that’s seriously what everyone does here. They just hang out on the streets talking and dancing if there is music around. It’s the culture of all of Spain. I told her that I just couldn’t get used to that. I neeeeeeeeed sleep or I don’t function. Plus, these last two Saturdays, we’ve gone on excursions all day. That’s really tiring. We are done with the excursions now though, so we’ll see about this Saturday. I like hanging out with the 30+ crowd in our group because they are a lot more chill. I tell you what, there are some people in this program who are a little out of control…like you would think they passed this phase at 23, but at ages 26, 27, 28 they’re still partying constantly.

Ummm, I think that’s all. Bye.

Clarification

For those of you who didn't scroll all the way down on my "I Like America" post....ahem, Nikki......I'm not really pregs. It was just supposed to be an ironic ending. If I were preggy, I probably wouldn't tell anybody until I had the babe and then gave it up for adoption (once again...kidding).

Sweat

I sweat a lot! Especially in the hamstring area close to the glutes. It's not cool to stand up and look like you wet your pants.

I like America

So I’ve realized in the past couple of days how much I really do like the United States. Yes, America can make me mad sometimes, but overall it’s a really great place. I like how things are organized. I like the restaurants and stores and malls. I love the toilets. I like how there is usually toilet paper and soap in most public restrooms. I love how you can go online to find whatever place you want and how close it is to where you live. I like the healthy food options that there are. Air conditioning is wonderful. I LOVE technology! I also really love the school I teach at. I’m very excited to go back to work actually. The school is just amazing, and I’m excited to grow into a better teacher with each year of experience.

It’s not that I dislike Spain or any other country. Mexico is my #1 and Spain is pretty close up there. The countries are just so different that it’s hard to compare. I love it here, really. It’s such a great country with tons of history behind it. I love how it starts getting dark around 10 PM, and that you see old people dressed in their Sunday best walking around the streets at 11PM with their friends on a week night. I also really love the amazing candy shops all over that have a larrrrrge variety of nuts and candy, although this is not a good thing for my body. So anyway, I was doing all of this thinking in the last couple of days, and came to the conclusion that I like the country that I live in, and although I’m enjoying Spain, I’m excited to go home.

I’ve really been missing Jordan a lot. We haven’t been apart from each other for this long since we’ve been married. I am very very thankful for Skype. Although it’s not the same as talking in person, it’s pretty close. 2 ½ weeks seems like such a long time to see him, but I’m sure it will come fast. It’s not really fun to be apart on our anniversary, but it will be like this for the next few years, so I guess we’ll have to make a pretend-anniversary date to celebrate.

Story of the day: Yesterday I went to a large supermarket to shop around, and I wanted to buy some apples, so I got 2 of them. When I went to check out, the cashier told me that I had to weigh them myself where all of the fruits and vegetables were. I had never heard of that before. So, I just bought the other two things that I had and left the apples there. I didn’t want to go back to weigh them because the lines were really long. There was a screaming child behind me in a stroller, which made me want to get out of there as fast as possible. I don’t know what the kid’s problem was, but it needed to stop. “Wahhhhhh, I didn’t get the sucker that I wanted. Wahhhh, life is so hard as a 3-yr. old. There’s nothing worse that could have happened to anybody else in the world than what just happened to me…”

“SHUT UP and get an adult brain,” is what I say. Harsh? Yes, that’s how I am. Kids just need to be adults. Also, I think I am a child magnet unfortunately. If there is a child running all over the place in a park (of course not looking where they’re going) and there are 100 people all around, there is a 98% chance that the kid will run into me or fall down and go “boom” right in front of me. Oh geeze, it’s really awkward when they fall and start to cry because I don’t know what to do. I should probably pick the thing up and try to be all comforting and what not, but I don’t want to touch it with all of that sticky goo and poop all over it’s body. I usually just walk away, really fast when I see that it’s going to fall. The only time that I would touch a child in that situation is if it belonged to someone I knew. Let me just remind you, I don’t hate all children, I just don’t like the idea of them (sorry God). So if you have a little kid and I know you, I most likely like your kid and think it’s cute. I just like to look and not touch because they can be fun to watch at times. Sometimes if I pretend that children are dogs or cats, I can talk to them like everybody else does in that baby voice. Otherwise, it’s really awkward for me to talk like that to another human.

So there you have it. By the way, I’m pregnant. Happy early birthday, Jordan.

Aaaaand, that was a big lie.

Weekend excursion

I think that you all will just have to get used to the fact that all of my entries will be extremely long. I pretty much tell you about every detail of anything that happens.

I made it through my first whole week of classes! I’m ¼ of the way through. Apparently the first week is the hardest. I hope that’s true because overall, it really wasn’t that hard. I only have to study for my one class (the Latin one). Latin Latin Latin. I’ve been making note cards each day, so today will be a day of studying those.

Yesterday we went on an excursion to the outskirts on Valladolid. First we went to a Monastery in Valbuena. It was neat. Then we went to a castle overlooking this cute little town called Peñafiel. It was also a wine museum inside. The outskirts of Valladolid are famous for their wine. We had 2 hours of free time in Peñafiel. It’s a tiny town and we were there during siesta time, so mostly all of the stores were closed. We found a restaurant that was open called Doner Kebab. It’s a chain out here, and it’s pretty good. There was only one guy working and he was sooooooo slow. There were about 8 of us, and he took 2 orders, made the food, took 2 more orders, made the food, etc. At a different Doner Kebab in Madrid there was only 1 guy too, but he took all 6 of our orders and pretty much made everything at the same time. Oh well, we had tons of time to spare. We sat and talked for a long time, then we went to a park by the river until it was time to meet. The conversations were great. They consisted mostly of diarrhea and constipation in foreign countries. Ok, there were other topics too, but that just shows how comfortable everybody is with each other now.

After we met up, we found out that we still had to do a tour of the town. We didn’t want to since we were already there for over 2 hours. But it ended up being alright. We went to this huge open plaza where they have a huge festival each August and have a bull-fight thing. I will post the pictures.

As we were about to leave, one girl that we had eaten with started getting rashes all over her body and they itched like crazy. Apparently she has severe allergies to any type of melon, but she hadn’t eaten any. We went through what was in her wrap from Doner Kebab and figured out that instead of lettuce in there, it was cabbage, which she also has an allergy to. She found a store and bought some kind of Benadryl since she didn’t have her little shot thing with her. That didn’t work. Her face was really starting to swell up. The bus stopped at a little ER place where she was able to get a shot that worked. I felt sorry for her, but in the end everything was fine.

Our last stop was at a vineyard called Bodegas Arzuaga, where we got a tour of the barrel room and where they press and bottle the wine. It was interesting. Then we got a little taste of one of their wines. It was actually very good. You could only buy them in boxes of three though, so nobody bought any.

When we got back, everybody was so tired, but a few of us agreed to meet up to do something later on. We met around 10 and got some ice cream (I had hazelnut ice cream and it was ridiculously good). We walked around, watched some tango dancing in a plaza, then went to “the beach”. It’s a river, and there is some sand in front of it. Anyway, we were all really really tired by 12:20, so we decided to go to our homes. The night was just starting for most people. The streets were filled. I guess I’m just getting too old.

I didn’t go to Pamplona by the way for the bull-running. My roommate did though. She may not actually get to see the action unfortunately. She has to catch a train back here 50 mins. after the running. I don’t regret not going. I wouldn’t have wanted to pay $50+ to stay up all night jammed in on the street with a bunch of crazy drunk people only to watch bulls running after people for 5 mins.

Another observation about Spain (and I assume most of Europe): EVERYBODY smokes. It’s so disgusting. I feel lucky to have a host mom who doesn’t smoke, because I think that it’s pretty rare to find a human being here who doesn’t. Ugh…do these people realize what they’re doing to themselves? I’m probably going to come home with lung cancer from 2nd hand smoke. I don’t think anybody in our group smokes either, which is good. But so far every single buy driver we’ve had smokes. Every time we’d get back on the bus, you could smell it, and we would all complain. In elementary they must be taught that smoking is healthy for you. Then again, in the USA we’re taught about how bad it is for you, yet there are a whole pile of idiots who still start to smoke after hearing all of that. I will never understand.

In other news, I just found out that Lexie’s (our dog) brother, Baxter died. It happened like a week and a half ago. I am extremely saddened by this. Baxter made me laugh. He was a big clown. Whenever he would run, it looked like he was bouncing, and he looked a little clumsy…..ahhhh so cute! Lexie will probably be really sad too. Any time you said, “You wanna go see Baxter?” she would run to the front door, ready to go outside to play with him. They were so cute together. I’m going to miss coming home and taking Lexie over there. He was the only dog she got along with. Rest in peace buddy.

Toilets

I don’t understand the toilets here. Nothing actually flushes down. We can’t even put toilet paper in there. I’ve done it accidently a few times, and it’s amazing that the toilet paper won’t flush. It’s so light and thin. I won’t go into any more detail on this topic, but I just think somebody should come up with a better plumbing system here. Oh wait…one more thing. In public restrooms there is rarely any toilet paper left in the bathroom stall and there is usually never any soap to wash your hands. One time I was smart enough to bring my own mini roll of toilet paper. I offered some to one girl, but then I felt like I had to offer the rest of the ladies in line some paper (all ppl. from our group). I couldn’t believe how much they were taking from my baby roll. I should have limited them to two squares per person.

Anyway, enough of that. Today was kind of a rough day. I was really grumpy at the end. My classes were more difficult today. I’m realizing that I won’t be getting any participation credit because I NEVER have anything to say in class. The prof. will ask a question, and I never know the answer, so of course I don’t just raise my hand and make something up. It’s not that I think I might know the right answer but am too afraid to raise my hand and possibly be wrong….it’s just that I have absolutely no idea what the answer is. In linguistics we were making tons of comparisons to Latin, and apparently it will be like this for the rest of the time. That’s good since I’ve had 0 years of Latin class. I’m learning a lot of Latin, but what good is that going to do me? I could go to a Latin mass and say I understood what the priest was saying I guess. I used the word Latin once in each of the last four sentences….just noticed that I overused it, but I don’t feel like changing my sentences around. For my other class today (civ. and culture of Spain), I was way lost. I understood the words that were coming out of the professor’s mouth, but I couldn’t put it all together to make sense, and to see how everything was all related. Luckily, my roommate is also in that class, so tonight she gave me the lowdown. She likes history.
Should I go to Pamplona this weekend to see the people run with the bulls? Some students are probably going on Sat. night and then coming back on Sun. It’s just that nobody will get any sleep. You just sleep on the streets if you can. You know me and sleep though. You can’t have one without the other. I just used the word “you” a lot. I also don’t like large crowds of people. I think I just answered my own question.

I got an email from amazon.com the other day saying that my gateway laptop had been sold, so ship now. I was soooo excited. I didn’t even really read the email, and I sent an email to Jordan to tell him to send it out as soon as possible. I then get this disappointing email from Jordan telling me that it was a scam. The address that we were supposed to ship to was in Nigeria. Hmmmmm……the buyer’s email address was something like sara.h@yahoo.com, but we were supposed to ship it to some Dibauw Ofibibubo (I made up the name). I looked on my amazon account and it didn’t say anything about my computer being sold. It was still listed as on the market. How crappy is that? Anyway, Jordan’s taking care of that…reporting it and such. These scam people should live in the US because they would probably get more people sending them stuff (for free and not knowing it). I would think that when most people see that they need to ship to Nigeria, they would think twice. Or maybe not if they don’t ever watch Dateline.

I want chocolate.

In Valladolid

Well, I was finally able to unpack my suitcase! We’ve been in Valladolid since Saturday. I really like this city. It’s much more spacious compared to the others we’ve visited, and there are parks all over the place. It is known to be the city where the best Castellano is spoken. I can see that….especially compared to Andalucia. They talk very similarly to Cubans, which is hard to understand sometimes.

Classes started on Monday, and as I’m writing this, I have just finished Tuesday’s classes. The classes are alright, but it’s hard to tell in only 2 days. It’s looking like I could have taken 3 instead of 2 because the classes that I do have don’t have much out of class reading or work to do. We do the work in class. The school has free wireless Internet, so that has been really nice. I get to Skype with Jordan every day.

You know what’s kind of annoying (and this happened in Mexico too)? Any time I get money from an ATM, I always get 50-euro bills. I don’t think there is a single place in Spain that can break a 50. The only way I’ve been able to get rid of them is during meals while we were traveling. I would put the 50 down and people would give me what they owed. Also, for some strange reason, it seems to be very difficult to break a 20. I don’t get it. I was at a large supermarket yesterday, and the cashier couldn’t (or maybe didn’t want to) break my 20. If nobody in the country has change for these bills, why do they make such “large” bills? Not everybody spends 50 Euros each time they make a purchase.

Speaking of the supermarket, when I was on my way home, I was waiting to cross a street. I was looking to make sure no cars were coming because I was going to cross “illegally” (which everyone does). I glanced over to the other side of the crosswalk and noticed an old lady…maybe late 60s? Maybe younger. I saw her spit and kind of glare at me. I just thought it was the sun or something. Then she proceeds to cross the street and spit at me as she walked by, screaming something that I didn’t understand at all. All I heard were the words “language” and “female dog.” I was really confused since I barely even looked at her. She was obviously crazy….maybe on her way back to her insane-people home.

I found a gym within 2 mins. of where I live, and I paid for a month to come only in the mornings. It’s a really nice gym, and if I wanted to I could do the aerobics and step classes in the morning, but there’s no time for that. I don’t think there is air conditioning in there. Get these hours: Mon. Wed. Fri. 8:00 am – noon then 5:30 – 11:30 pm. Tues. Thurs.: 10:00 am—1:00 then 6:00—11:30. If I could, I would go at 7 am every day. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I can’t be there for long because I have a class at 11. The entire city becomes a ghost city between noon and 5:00 PM. Mostly all of the stores and restaurants are closed. I will never understand why.
My meal plan is crazy too. I eat breakfast whenever I get up, lunch is at 3:00 PM, and dinner is at 10:00 PM. Most of the time, I’m ready to go to bed by 9:30. Spanish food isn’t really the best. I’ve been eating tasty things here that my host mom cooks, but overall it’s nothing special. I prefer Mexican, Chinese, Indian, and American food over this. I can’t wait to go home and cook these things and go out to eat!

Catching you up

Saddle up, boys and girls. This is a long one. You might have to read it in a couple of sittings.

So we spent Wednesday mostly in Córdoba touring. Let me tell you…it was sooooooooooooooooooooooooo hot! Even in the shade. I literally had sweat dripping down my back and face. But so did everybody else. We were all miserable, and it was such a long day. We visited a cathedral and other stuff that I don’t remember. The cities and what we did are all mixed up in my mind. Anyway, at night we went to a flamenco show in this tiny hole-in-the-wall place. It was awesome though. The dancers were amazing. It was a narrow room and the audience had to sit in chairs bordering the walls. I was seated right smack dab in front of the dance floor. There were so many times that I thought that I was going to get whipped in the face with one of the dancer’s hands. Because sometimes they have convulsions….well, not convulsions, but it’s kind of like Krump dancing sometimes. It’s really hard to describe. Forget the convulsion thing. I’ll put up some videos that I took of this happening.

After the show, we took a night tour of the area because it was famous for something, which I don’t remember. Anyway, the streets are pretty narrow and dark. We were walking past these two guys with dreads, smoking, and right after I walked past them (I was on the outside), one guy started following me….like right behind/beside me. My stinkin’ purse was on the outside arm, and I didn’t want to move it to the other arm because that would have been a wonderful opportunity for him to steal it. I held it really really tightly and he eventually walked away. I know for sure that he was going to try to steal it. That scared me, and he wasn’t being discrete at all, which made me wonder if he’s one of those guys who takes a knife and cuts off the strap of the purse and runs off with it…of course stabbing the person a little bit as well. I’m glad that didn’t happen.

So the next day we went to Toledo. We stopped at the place that has all of the old windmills that Don Quijote was based off of. It was pretty cool. Off in the distance you could see brand new windmills just like those in Pigeon. It felt like home…except hilly and very pretty (no offense home).

Today, we spent the day touring in Toledo…another cathedral and other places. At this point, everybody in the group just wants to be in Valladolid. We’re all sick of taking tours. Our tour guide is some kind of genius. He literally knows everything….every date, every famous person to ever live in the world, ever y historical fact about every place in the world, etc. He’s been with us this whole time. But the thing is…he never stops talking! When he says that a tour is going to take one hour, we know he means 2 because we stop at EVERYTHING. In one city we stopped at stores with postcards for sale outside to talk about the pictures on the postcards…4 times! He’ll say, “And now we’re on our way to the cathedral,” and 20 seconds later we stop and he talks about a window of a house that’s right there for 10 more minutes. Then we’ll be on our way again, and we stop to talk about a pebble on the ground for 5 more minutes. It’s ridiculous. Everybody was complaining today (only behind his back of course).

But we ended up back in Madrid this evening. Tomorrow we’ll be heading to Valladolid, but we’re stopping in Segovia to do more tours…ugh. I want to see the aqueducts and everything, but how about we just stay there for 15 mins., take pictures and go, eh?

Anyway, overall, I really have enjoyed seeing everything. I really do feel lucky to be here. It’s a beautiful country…especially outside of the cities. Take a look at the pictures I’ve uploaded on Facebook. My favorites are of the countryside. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2326372&id=21705746&l=44874849c5

Side story: For some reason I always end up seated at a table with our professor (and nobody else) for breakfast. It’s really annoying and awkward. It’s just that all of the other tables are filled…or I arrive early and he’s the only one there. He doesn’t talk very much, and neither do I when I’m around him. The end.

In Granada

Hello everyone. We have arrived in Granada today. It was a long day. On our way here (well, it wasn't really on the way) we stopped at this small town that was built on cliffs of rock. It was really cool because it looked very similar to Greece. We just walked around a little and went back to the bus. You should have seen the roads leading to this place. They were soooooooo narrow, and the bus barely fit through the streets of the city. It was kind of scary, but our driver was good. On the way back to the bus, I really wanted a water, so I walked into this tiny grocery store to grab a warm one. There were only two people in front of me with very few items. The cashier took forevvvvvver to check them out. Everybody knew each other, so they were having conversations. I was so annoyed because I knew that the rest of the group was probably already at the bus. Well, when it was my turn, the cashier told me it was 40 cents, and I looked in my wallet and didn't see anything smaller than a 10 (euro). When I went to give it to her, she gave me a glare, and then looked at the lady behind me and told her the price of whatever she had. She helped that lady before me basically. I searched in my purse again, and I happened to find 40 cents. I just put it on the counter and left. The lady was so mean. I couldn't believe it. I hustled back to the bus in a panic, worrying that I was holding everybody up again. I got on the bus and nobody was there. I didn't know where they were, but it turned out they all went to the bathroom in some bar.

Anyway, our next stop was a beach city called Marbella. Many rich rich people live there. Sean Connery has a house there apparently. The houses were beautiful. We found a beach and stayed there for 3 hours. Yes, it was a topless beach, and I totally tried it out. Yeah, not true. I don't understand how women can do that and feel normal. How would you talk to someone if she were topless? I wouldn't be able to....weird.

Then we ended up here in Granada. It's so weird because here (in all of Spain) the sun doesn't set until like 9:45 PM or later. It always seems way earlier. Also, we usually have dinner at 8:30 or 9:00 PM, but that's normal here. Actually I think 10:00 is probably more normal. I'm eating a lot of food by the way, and without Turbo Jam, I'm becoming more flabby. It's amazing what can happen in a week to your body. I can gain 5 pounds or more in one week, but it takes 6 months to lose those 5 pounds.

And also, and announcement for everybody: my comment thing works finally. I fixed it. So comment. Bye bye.
